Staffordshire & Birmingham County Show

Stafford Coastal Cruising Club organised the stand and manning for the joint RYA/SCCC stand at the recent Staffordshire & Birmingham County Show.

Over 22 members of the SCCC, RYA and local Sailing clubs volunteered to take turns manning the stand which featured displays and  an interactive dinghy where it was possible to experience the process of sailing and tacking a dinghy.

Weather on the Wednesday was not helpful but perseverance seemed to pay off with us actively engaging with over 270 people across the two days, including a duck, cow, elephant and police dog ! ( see  pics)

Patricia Ordsmith (RYA) and  Phil Osman (SCCC) also managed to get a short slot on Radio Stoke mid morning on Thursday to promote the RYA and sailing in the area (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p078lx9t  approx 1hr 36mins into the broadcast).  The stand was also visited by the local MP (Jeremy Lefroy) and the Bishop.

Overall the stand  managed to raise the profile of sailing and cruising, hopefully in the fullness of time this will translate in to more sailors and members for our clubs.

A big thank you to everyone involved and to those who visited us.
